As you know, the enormous need and severity of the current humanitarian crisis erupting throughout the world, particularly in Sub Sahara Africa. Worsening drought conditions and the accompanying food shortages are threatening over 20 million people in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Malnutrition, hunger, and increasing rates of HIV infection and AIDS endangering the lives of 15 or more millions men, women and children in regions in Africa. Millions more die per day from preventable diseases and conditions such as Malaria, Tuberculosis, Dysentery and starvation. Recent violence in the Ivory Coast, coupled with the effects of long-term conflicts such as the ten-year civil war in Liberia and Sierra Leone and the multinational war in the Republic of the Congo, have further depleted or destroyed the national resources, the homes, and the lives of these nations’ residents and those of refugees. In short, without interference, the magnitude of these financial and humanitarian emergencies will prove disastrous. Urgent medical assistance and emergency aid are required if the millions of African people who live on the edge of hunger, poverty, disease, and illiteracy are to survive in the decades to come.
